Water Level
Working on the tree house today, I had a problem trying to place level mark on both sides of a tree. I came up with a "water level". This is a really simple idea that produces excellent results.

Radar Detector Mount
Another mod I plan on doing to our Touareg is to "custom mount" a radar detector above the mirror. I don't want the cord to dangle, or for there to be some clip hanging off of the visor. The plan is to use the access panel behind the ceiling lights and cut slots in it to mount velcro straps and conceal the power cord. The Homelink system module is stored there, so I should be able to get a 12v lead.
The part in question is 7L6-868-349F. Before I get the dremel out I'm going to order an extra one.

P21W Bulb for Touareg Rear Fog
I've been looking for some simple mods to do on my wife's 2008 VW Touareg, and decided to add rear fog lights. This is fairly easy, requiring just a euroswitch, some wire, and a light bulb. The switch can be changed without tools, and the Comfort Control module (where the wiring takes place) is mounted in a bay in the trunk, making access and wiring much easier than my Passat. Turns out the light bulb may be the hardest part to find.
The bulb housing in the taillight is marked "P21W". Autozone had no listing for this part number. Using their computer to located the bulb based on the make/model of the vehicle turned up no listing for rear fog lights.
Eventually, I found a couple of UK automotive sites and realized that P21W is the same as the (fairly) common 1156. A couple of dollars later and I've got the bulb installed. Now I'll just need the wiring and switch!
